"Visually neat and atmospheric." - Time Out New York
A man on the brink of a spiritual and psychological breakdown. A woman whose face he cannot quite remember.
Memory drifts through its own twisted and fractured narrative, until finally, everything vanishes.
Contingent was the second of Temporary Distortion's "box" projects. In
these minimalist chamber theater experiments, performers were isolated in large glass encased shadow boxes
lined with fluorescent lights, from where all spoken text was delivered quietly over microphones.
This work was a continuation of Temporary Distortion's investigation of the effects of minimalism and
stillness as a performative method and the expressive potential of stillness, silence and monotone in the
theater.
